Relocation of the Chassis Service Area and Roadability at NIT

Port Partners,

(An electronic version of the following announcement can be found here:  Relocation of the Chassis Service Area and Roadability at NIT)

As construction progresses at NIT South, we appreciate the continued flexibility and partnership of the trucking community with regard to operational changes.

On Monday, January 29, 2018, the following changes will be implemented at NIT:

  • The relocation of the Chassis Service Area (CSA) and the roadability function from NIT South, adjacent to the tower, to NIT North (500 area)
    • The image below will assist you in visualizing planned changes at NIT North.
  • As of Jan. 29, drivers will enter the CSA/roadability area off Railroad Ave., adjacent to the entrance for the North Transfer Zone queue
  • As of Jan. 29, drivers will exit the CSA/roadability area on to Railroad Ave., adjacent to the newly consolidated RSA
  • The blue canopy, adjacent to the tower, will be relocated to the 500 area in the next 30 days

In early January, a total of three weekly vessels services were relocated from NIT South to NIT North, facilitating the first phases of RMG stack construction.  Based on average volumes, shifting these services effectively removed 2,800 containers per week from the NIT South stacks and positioned those containers at NIT North.  A strategic decision to relocate CSA and roadability functions reduces driving distances and improves turn times for drivers at NIT.
